36 hours in Mexico! Living in San Diego, we can do these things but we don’t often enough. I sorta kinda blame that on two little people, I won’t mention any names. Never the less, a couple weekends ago, Gramma was in town so Chris and I got to escape for an overnight in Valle de Guadalupe.
We had a blast. So much fun! We went with 8 other friends and let’s just say our group text is STILL going strong, a few weeks after our fun filled weekend. So Tip 1 – go with people that are looking to have the same experience as you.
Tip 2 – Prepare. Thanks to our girl, Courtney (of @Coco_SanDiego), we had a full itinerary planned ahead of time. We were picked up in Tijuana by our driver, Marco, after crossing the pedestrian bridge. SUPER easy. Marco stayed with us the whole weekend. We had reservations pretty much everywhere we went. It might not be 100% necessary but it allowed us to relax and have fun knowing our day was pretty much outlined for us.
Tip 3 – Have a dance party everywhere you go. Kidding. But it totally made our weekend hilariously funny. See video below.
Tip 4 – This should really be Tip 1. Bring your passport and have cash a few different places on you. There wasn’t a second of the day we didn’t feel safe but it doesn’t hurt to take the extra step to be prepared. Call your credit card company ahead of time to let them know you’re traveling out of the country. And make sure your cell service covers you in Mexico, or go on airplane mode like I did. I wanted to be disconnected :).
This was our rough itinerary:
Day One: Left home at 8:30am, Tasting and Tacos at Casa Frida (they have beer, wine and tequila tasting), Wine Tasting at Decantos Vinicola , Cocktails and Food at Agua de Vid, Dinner at Finca Altozano, Afterparty at our Airbnb 😉
Day Two: Brunch and Mimosas at Encuentro, Tour and Wine Tasting at Bruma. Back to the border, walked over (no line), Home by 5:00pm.
And now for that video I promised….
