Since we’re heading out of town for Layla’s actual birthday and the weekend immediately following, we decided to do an early celebration in San Diego and invite some close friends. Because the party fell almost two weeks before Layla’s actual birthday, I’ve had more time to wrap my head around the fact that she’s ACTUALLY turning one. I can’t tell you how hard it is for me to believe!
Everyone who says it goes faster with the second child has it right. Time has gone by really fast this time around.
I keep asking myself why I’m struggling so much to come to grips with the fact that she is one. Maybe its because she has less hair than Ellie did at this age or doesn’t talk yet (Ellie was saying at least 20 words by now). Or maybe because she still wears size “9 months” clothes and wants me to carry her everywhere.
Really I think it’s more simple than all that. She’s my baby. And I’ve enjoyed this year with her so much. It hasn’t necessarily been easy but I made a conscious effort to be present instead of fantasizing about hitting the fast forward button through the hard parts. So now that we’re at this huge milestone it’s like, whoa we did it…but I kinda want more time with her as my itty bitty.
A small celebration
Although we chose to do a super small (9 adults, 2 kids) party, I still wanted to make it pretty….because, why not?! I used mostly stuff I already had (linked below), accented with some pretty spray roses and peonies from the local wholesale flower market and took a stab at baking a couple cakes.
Chris barbecued of course and we played corn hole and drank beer and wine. Normal afternoon party stuff. 😉
Lucky Layla’s Autie (my sister) made her the awesome high chair garland and flower crown and her Uncle Chris snapped some photos per usual. Thanks for checking them out!
